Beware Kodak alkaline batteries

This the the damage caused to the aluminium case of my brand new Macbook - it's 3cm x 3cm. I had the remote of our DVR stood on it for about half an hour. The remote was working, batteries were in date. Apparently alkaline batteries (not just Kodak) are prone to leaking Potassium hydroxide. Unfortunately this eats aluminium - hate to think what it would do to skin !!
Contacting Kodak is proving nigh impossible
